LG PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK: HOWE SECURES VITAL 3 POINTS AGAINST REIGNING CHAMPIONS
The League Managers Association five-man Performance of the Week panel, comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, were in agreement that this week the LG Performance of the Week Award should go to AFC Bournemouth following their excellent 1 - 0 victory against Chelsea in the Barclays Premier League on Saturday 5 December 2015.
The experienced and highly distinguished panel has managed a combined total of over 6,000 competitive matches in professional football.
AFC Bournemouth manager, Eddie Howe, will receive a specially commissioned trophy made by world renowned silversmiths and LMA Partner, Thomas Lyte of London, in a presentation to commemorate the award.
Bournemouth’s resilient defensive display resulted in their second clean sheet of the season, frustrating Chelsea before a late header from substitute Glenn Murray won the game for the visitors as the closely contested fixture reached its conclusion.
Bournemouth’s match winning performance makes them the first promoted side to beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in 43 attempts.
Manager, Howe said: "It was really emotional in the dressing room afterwards. I'm so proud of them.
"We defended so well, put our bodies on the line and didn't succumb to the pressure. We hung in there and that was crucial. We've talked all season about trying to score more goals from corner and free kicks and it happened today."
