LG PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK: KLOPP SECURES BACK TO BACK AWARDS WITH CUP WIN
The League Managers Association five-man Performance of the Week panel, comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, were in agreement that this week the LG Performance of the Week Award should go to Liverpool following their emphatic 6-1 victory against Southampton in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday 3rd December 2015.
The experienced and highly distinguished panel has managed a combined total of over 6,000 competitive matches in professional football.
Liverpool manager, Jürgen Klopp, will receive another specially commissioned trophy made by world renowned silversmiths and LMA Partner, Thomas Lyte of London, in a presentation to commemorate the award.
Having been awarded their second LG Performance of the Week trophy in consecutive weeks, Liverpool’s fine form has seen them emerge as potential title contenders and challengers for the Capital One Cup, where they will face Stoke City in the semi-final in January.
Despite falling behind to a Saido Mane goal within 60 seconds, Liverpool marched ahead before the break with two goals from Daniel Sturridge and a Divock Origi strike.
They continued to pile the pressure on in the second half with Origi and Jordan Ibe extending the lead before the former completed his first hat-trick for Liverpool in the 86th minute.
The win means Klopp has overseen 7 wins in his first 11 games in charge.
