TERRY NEILL: 1942 - 2022

The LMA is very saddened to hear of the passing of former manager Terry Neill, who has died aged 80.

During his playing career, Terry captained Arsenal, becoming the youngest Arsenal captain in the club's history at 20 years of age. With Arsenal, Terry made 275 first team appearances and scored 10 goals. He also won 59 caps with Northern Ireland, becoming the captain of his country in 1968.

Terry began his management career at the age of 28 with Hull City in 1970 as player-manager. In 1971, he also became player-manager of Northern Ireland. In 1974, Terry succeeded Bill Nicholson at Tottenham Hotspur and managed the club for two seasons.

Terry returned to Arsenal as manager in 1976 aged 34, becoming the youngest Arsenal manager to date. He famously led the club to three successive FA Cup finals, winning the competition against Manchester United in 1979. Terry also guided Arsenal to the final of the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1980.

We send our sincere condolences to Terry’s family and friends.
