London City Lionesses Manager Melissa Phillips has been awarded The FA Women’s Championship Manager of the Month trophy for April by the LMA Panel.

The Lionesses won all three matches through April including an important 3-1 performance against their nearest rivals for the runners-up place, Bristol City. Home victories against Charlton and Lewes, without conceding ensured a perfect month for Phillips' side.

Upon receiving the Manager of the Month trophy Phillips said: "I am honoured to receive this award, but any individual award is always a reflection of the team and staff. We have a humble, hungry and hardworking group who I am so grateful to work with everyday. With a a great run of form through April, we feel this is a very fitting way to finish off the season as this team has worked so incredibly hard to compete at the top all season long.”

Chair of the League Managers Association panel Marieanne Spacey-Cale MBE
added: "In the final weeks of the season, Melissa led her team from 6th in March to the highest league position in the club's history, thanks to a strong finish to the season including three wins in April against challenging opposition.

"London City has enjoyed an excellent season in a highly competitive league and Melissa can look forward to September, on the back of some excellent late season form, which should give the team plenty of confidence to build upon."

The LMA panel for the monthly awards involves three highly experienced individuals with specialist knowledge of the women’s game and football management, including Marieanne Spacey-Cale MBE (LMA Member and Southampton FC Head of Girls and Women’s Football/Head Coach), Jen O’Neill (Editor of She Kicks - women's football magazine) and Alan Curbishley (LMA Board Member and LMA Manager of the Year 1999/2000).
