Bobby Campbell

07 Nov 2015

The LMA is saddened to hear of the passing of Bobby Campbell at the age of 78.

Bobby began his managerial career in 1976 with Fulham and went on to manage Portsmouth, leading the team to the Third Division title in 1982-83. Towards the end of the 1987-88 season, Campbell was appointed assistant to manager John Hollins at Chelsea and he was then appointed caretaker following Hollins's departure from the club.

He guided Chelsea to promotion as Second Division champions with a haul of 99 points. He then led Chelsea to a 5th place finish in the First Division, their highest league placing since 1970. Bobby also had two spells overseas, managing in Kuwait.

The thoughts of everyone at the LMA are with Bobby's family at this sad time.
