Peter Reid was confirmed as the new manager of Mumbai FC on September 4, 2014.
Reid is an esteemed football figure who has achieved success as a player and manager.
The former Everton and England midfielder - previously an international boss with Thailand - also has twice led Sunderland into the Premier League. Reid also inspired a strong challenge for European qualification as his near-eight year reign peaked with two successive seventh-place finishes.
The combative Liverpudlian first sampled management while still a player at Manchester City in 1990. After the departure of Howard Kendall - the manager under whom he had thrived at Everton - Reid stepped up from the dressing room to guide City to fifth place, leaving rivals Manchester United in their wake.
Reid's side were equally competitive in his second season before he was harshly dismissed in '93. After reverting to playing in spells with Southampton, Notts County and Bury, Reid returned to management at Sunderland where he staved off relegation to the third tier in '95.
The following season the Wearsiders were promoted as champions, earning Reid the LMA's Manager of the Year award. Relegation followed but Peter responded by assembling an exciting new team to coincide with the club's move from Roker Park to the Stadium of Light.
After missing out in a thrilling play-off final - Sunderland were beaten on penalties after a 4-4 draw with Charlton - Reid's men stormed to promotion as champions on the back of a record 105 points.
In 2000 Sunderland achieved one of the highest-ever placements by Premiership newcomers in finishing seventh, a feat they repeated in the next campaign.
Reid, who was briefly England Under 21 manager during his time in the North East, left the Stadium of Light in 2002. He bounced back in caretaker charge of Leeds United before landing the job by keeping the ailing club in the top flight.
Reid was also fleetingly Coventry manager before taking on the Thailand challenge in September, 2008.
After a year in charge of Thailand, Reid then joined Stoke City to assist Tony Pulis where he helped guide the club to an 11th place finish in 2009/10.
Peter then joined Home Park to take charge of Plymouth for the beginning of the 2010/11 season. He then faced the toughest test of his managerial career as the club's financial problems escalated and resulted in administration. Having somehow managed, against all odds, to keep Argyle above the drop zone, a 10 point deduction saw Argyle relegated to League Two. He remained with the club until September 2011.
As a player, Reid won promotion to the top flight with first club Bolton and then shared in four major trophies at Everton. In 1985, Kendall's side - with Peter at its heart - won both the league title and European Cup Winners Cup. They also came close to the treble, beaten in the final of the FA Cup - the competition they won in '84 - by Manchester United.
He was capped 13 times by England and played in the '86 World Cup. He is also a respected television pundit.
