Kevin Summerfield began his playing career in 1977, where he served as an apprentice with West Bromwich Albion. Following moves to Birmingham, Walsall and Cardiff, Summerfield settled at Plymouth Argyle where he made 118 league appearances and scored 21 goals.
The midfielder then had a brief loan spell at Exeter but only made 4 appearances. From there, Summerfied moved to Shrewsbury town where he spent a further six years. During that time Summerfield made 140 league appearances and scored 23 goals.
Summerfield saw out his playing career with The Shrews and became a coach at the club before returning to Plymouth Argyle to make his managerial debut on the 4th of October 2000. After five matches in charge, the club appointed Paul Sturrock as manager and Summerfield stepped down to become the new manager's assistant.
He is currently the assistant manager of Derby County.
