Match Report
Everton finished the year in high spirits by triumphing 2-1 over Manchester City in the WSL in a sublime performance at Walton Hall Park.
Lucy Hope broke the deadlock in the 30th minute via a superb glancing header after the defender towered above the City backline to meet Sara Holmgaard’s trademark inch-perfect cross from the right.
Honoka Hayashi doubled the Toffees’ lead nine minutes later, maintaining composure to slot the ball into the bottom left corner on the edge of the box after being found by Melissa Lawley.
Mary Fowler halved the deficit with one minute to go, converting from the spot after Yui Hasegawa was fouled inside the area.
The hosts held on though, in what was a dominant display on home soil, as the Blues concluded the calendar year with a deserved victory.
