Match Report
Rovers produced one of their best performances of the season to record an emphatic 5-1 win at Sunderland to earn three crucial points at the Stadium Of Light.
John Eustace’s visitors were excellent throughout and took a comfortable 2-0 lead into the break thanks to Sam Szmodics’ ruthless double for his 28th and 29th goals of a remarkable individual campaign.
Rovers refused to take their foot off the gas and clearer daylight was added to the scoreline just two minutes into the second period through Ryan Hedges’ second goal of the season.
Only seven minutes later and the impressive Tyrhys Dolan got his goal to make it 4-0 and pretty much kill off the contest before the hour mark.
Although substitute Chris Rigg gave Sunderland a late lifeline, one of Rovers’ own second half alterations in Andrew Moran kept the four-goal advantage when he tapped home the fifth of what really was a magnificent afternoon for the team.
