The LMA is deeply saddened following the passing of former LMA President and member Sven-Göran Eriksson.
Sven joined the LMA in 2001, when he was appointed as England manager and took over the role of LMA President.
He arrived in England as one of the most respected managers in European football, following his achievements in Sweden, Portugal and Italy across seven different clubs, where he earned 18 domestic and intercontinental titles.
He led the England Senior Men’s team to three major tournaments and his impact as manager improved the team’s FIFA World Ranking from 17th on arrival, to fourth at the time of his departure.
Following his five and a half year spell as England manager, Sven managed Manchester City and Leicester City in the English League, three international teams on three different continents and spent four years managing in China.
Sven was inducted into the LMA Hall of Fame and 1000 Club in December 2017, as the LMA honoured his remarkable career in the game.
Paying tribute, LMA Chairman Martin O’Neill OBE said: “I am saddened by the passing of Sven-Göran Eriksson.
“On the couple of occasions that our paths crossed he was extremely courteous and rather genteel, with a real sense of humour.
“He brought sparkle with him always and he will be greatly missed. My sincere condolences to Sven’s family and friends.”
LMA Chief Executive Richard Bevan OBE added: “On behalf of everyone at the LMA, I would like to offer our deepest condolences to Sven’s family and friends.
“Sven was an undoubtedly gifted and charismatic leader. He was a highly respected member of the LMA and we he are honoured to have had Sven as our President from 2001 until 2006.
“During this time and thereafter, Sven always showed kindness, humility and generosity in giving up his time to support the LMA. We will miss Sven and always remember him with great fondness."
