Richard, pictured alongside his wife Her Honour Judge Suzanne Goddard KC, was today awarded his OBE by HRH The Prince of Wales at Windsor Castle.
Richard joined the LMA in 2008 and has led the organisation with great energy and distinction over the last 14 years overseeing its significant transformation.
Through their association, the members of the LMA, the managers and coaches in both men’s and women’s professional football, now have access to a truly world class programme of health and wellbeing support services, career, personal development and legal services and most importantly an LMA that is their trusted collective voice in the game. Professional football management and coaching can be both a rewarding and challenging career choice and the LMA members know their association is there supporting them throughout their careers.
Specifically, over recent years, the expansion of LMA Wellness, the organisation’s tailored health and wellbeing support, has been transformational. The services provided by the LMA’s team across both physical and mental health are extensive and have been, in many instances, truly life saving. Additionally, through using its profile and the profile of its members, the LMA, under Richard’s leadership, has been proud to make valuable contributions to a number of incredibly important charities and health campaigns, including Prostate Cancer UK, the national Shining a Light on Suicide campaign, and Alzheimer’s Society’s Sport United Against Dementia campaign.
Commenting on his honour, Richard said, "I am incredibly proud to receive this honour. We have achieved real tangible and lasting progress at the LMA serving our members and the game with a unique blend of professionalism and compassion. I must thank my family, friends and the brilliant LMA team for their unrivalled dedication. This honour is recognition of the whole team’s work and it is very much for them as well."
