LG PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK: McCARTHY CELEBRATES SIR BOBBY ROBSON DAY WITH SECOND WIN OVER EASTER
The League Managers Association’s five-man panel, comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, has determined that the LG Performance of the Week Award should go to Ipswich Town for their impressive 3-1 victory against promotion contenders Newcastle United on Monday 17th April 2017.
The experienced and highly distinguished panel has managed a combined total of over 6,000 competitive matches in professional football.
Ipswich Town Manager Mick McCarthy will receive a celebratory bottle of champagne, courtesy of Tanners Wines, and a LG Performance of the Week trophy in a presentation to commemorate the result.
Huws stunner lights up Town's impressive win over promotion chasers.
The biggest crowd of the season saw Town celebrate Sir Bobby Robson Day in style.
Not even a goal from the returning Daryl Murphy could stop Blues picking up a deserved win, with Emyr Huws rounding off the scoring with a superb volley in added on time.
Freddie Sears had given Town the lead at the break, before Murphy struck on the hour, the former Blue keeping his celebrations muted. David McGoldrick put Mick McCarthy’s side back in front soon after and Huws sealed the win from Brett Pitman’s cross.
Sears was a constant threat to Newcastle and could have had more than the one goal, while McGoldrick also went close to adding a third late on.
