Gary Rowett has been confirmed as the new manager of Birmingham City.

Speaking on the club website he said:

"It is an honour and privilege to be the manager of Birmingham City.

"This is a fantastic opportunity and an exciting challenge that I'm ready for. Having spent time here as a player, I know what this club is all about and what the supporters expect from their team.

"The biggest thing for me is that I can still remember the moment the hairs stood up on the back of my neck when we played Watford in the play-off semi-final (in 1999).

"Even an hour before kick-off, the Blues fans generated the most incredible atmosphere inside St. Andrew's and that's something that I want to help to bring back.

"Even if we can recreate a little bit of that famous atmosphere then we'll be on the right track.

"The aim for me now is to work as hard, as professionally and as diligently as I can to produce a team that can replicate the passion and pride that the supporters have; a team that they can believe in."
