VITAL AWAY VICTORY EARNS SUNDERLAND THE ACCOLADE
The League Managers Association five-man Performance of the Week panel, comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, were in agreement that this week the LG Performance of the Week Award should go to Sunderland following their important 2 - 0 victory against Everton in the Barclays Premier League on Saturday 9th May 2015.
The experienced and highly distinguished panel has managed a combined total of over 6,000 competitive matches in professional football.
Sunderland head coach Dick Advocaat received a specially commissioned trophy made by world renowned silversmiths and LMA Partner, Thomas Lyte of London, in a presentation to commemorate the award.
Danny Graham scored the first goal of his Sunderland career to give the away fans something to cheer in a hugely important match for The Black Cats. Advocaat organised Sunderland brilliantly to defeat an Everton team unbeaten at Goodison in 2015 and winners of their last four home games without conceding a goal.
“Today was the first time luck has gone our way. But it was not only luck,” said the delighted manager. “The players worked very hard, the fans stood behind us.
“If you have the commitment and give everything you can get results, even against a better team. We were lucky but it was effective.”
