LG PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK: WAY STEERS YEOVIL TOWARDS SAFETY WITH HEAVY AWAY WIN
The League Managers Association’s five-man panel, comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, has determined that the LG Performance of the Week Award should go to Yeovil Town for their 6-2 victory against Coventry City on Monday 2nd April 2018.
The experienced and highly distinguished panel has managed a combined total of over 6,000 competitive matches in professional football.
Yeovil Town manager Darren Way will receive a celebratory bottle of champagne, courtesy of Tanners Wines, and an LG Performance of the Week trophy in a presentation to commemorate the result.
The Glovers returned to action in stunning fashion by seeing off play-off hopefuls Coventry City 6-2 at the Ricoh Arena.
Starting like they had an extra pair of legs not just fresh legs, Yeovil stormed into an early 3-0 lead to stun their promotion-chasing hosts.
Alex Fisher set the tone after just five minutes with a close-range finish, before Francois Zoko got in on the act six minutes later with a typically composed strike from inside the box.
Completing a stunning opening quarter-of-an-hour, Fisher's persistence earned him a second of the match by dinking an effort over Lee Burge, as the Green & Whites produced their best opening 45 minutes of the season.
Needing a miracle, Max Biamou reduced the deficit two minutes after the restart but Zoko reinstated the three-goal lead with a superb solo goal.
Continuing the free-scoring theme, Biamou grabbed his second of the game with an unstoppable half-volley from 25 yards before substitute Sam Surridge netted a brace in the final 10 minutes to confirm a memorable win in the West Midlands.
