LG PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK: AINSWORTH’S WANDERERS STAND FIRM IN DRAMATIC WIN AGAINST CARLISLE UNITED
The League Managers Association’s five-man panel, comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, has determined that the LG Performance of the Week Award should go to Wycombe Wanderers for their 4-3 victory against Carlisle United on Saturday 3rd February 2018.
The experienced and highly distinguished panel has managed a combined total of over 6,000 competitive matches in professional football.
Wycombe Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth will receive a celebratory bottle of champagne, courtesy of Tanners Wines, and an LG Performance of the Week trophy in a presentation to commemorate the result.
The Blues were 2-0 up at the break, but an early penalty and a red card for Luke O’Nien in the second half allowed the Cumbrians back into game, before they turned it on its head with two quick goals on 68 and 70 minutes.
United skipper Danny Grainger dispatched the subsequent spot-kick for his ninth goal of the campaign. Jamie Devitt netted his second goal in as many games to pull United level, connecting with Brown’s cross this time after his earlier miss.
Brown was then involved again, whipping a free-kick into the box for Cole Stockton to head home with his first goal for Carlisle and put them 3-2 up. Wanderers were now right up against it.
But this team never know when they are beaten, and Paris Cowan-Hall headed home in the 93rd minute before Marcus Bean sent Adams Park wild with celebration to score with pretty much the last kick of the game – ending his long wait for a goal in the quarters.Read more here: https://www.wycombewanderers.co.uk/news/2018/february/report-wycombe-4-3-carlisle/
