The League Managers Association five-man Performance of the Week panel, comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, were in agreement that this week the LG Performance of the Week Award should go to Liverpool following their enthralling 5-4 victory against Norwich City in the Barclays Premier League on Saturday 23rd January 2016.
The experienced and highly distinguished panel has managed a combined total of over 6,000 competitive matches in professional football.
Liverpool manager, Jürgen Klopp, will receive his third specially commissioned trophy of the season, made by world renowned silversmiths and LMA Partner, Thomas Lyte of London, in a presentation to commemorate the award.
Liverpool went 3-1 down after 54 mins as Norwich cancelled out Roberto Firmino’s 18th minute opener, Leaving Klopp’s side with a mountain to climb at Carrow Road. However, an instant response from Jordan Henderson swung the game’s momentum in the Red’s favour as Firmino and James Milner regained the lead with 15 minutes to play.
A tense finish awaited and the home side’s pressure appeared to pay off as Sebastien Bassong’s 20 yard strike levelled the score in added time at the end of the second half.
Despite the disappointment of conceding so close to the death, Adam Lallana pounced on a loose ball in the Norwich City box to secure a dramatic win and the full three points, sparking jubilant celebrations from Klopp and his squad.
