LG PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK: JONES’ HATTERS TAKE FIRST LG AWARD FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE SEASON
The League Managers Association’s five-man panel, comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, has determined that the LG Performance of the Week Award should go to Luton Town for their emphatic 8-2 victory against Yeovil Town on Saturday 5th August 2017.
The experienced and highly distinguished panel has managed a combined total of over 6,000 competitive matches in professional football.
Luton Town manager Nathan Jones will receive a celebratory bottle of champagne, courtesy of Tanners Wines, and an LG Performance of the Week trophy in a presentation to commemorate the result.
This is the second consecutive season Jones has received the first LG award of the season, following on from last season’s cup victory over Aston Villa.
The Hatters produced a stunning performance to come from behind record what is believed to be the highest-ever opening day victory in the club’s history at Kenilworth Road this afternoon.
Nathan Jones’ side smashed eight goals past his old club Yeovil – who had opened the scoring through Otis Khan’s early free-kick and grabbed a second consolation in the second half through Francois Zoko – to usurp the 6-1 first-day win over Oldham Athletic in 1978-79.
