LG PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK: JOHNSON’S CITY STAGE WONDER COMEBACK AGAINST SHEFFIELD UNITED
The League Managers Association’s panel, comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle and Dave Bassett, has determined that the LG Performance of the Week Award should go to Bristol City for their 2 – 3 victory over Sheffield United on 30th March.
The experienced and highly distinguished panel has managed a combined total of over 5,500 competitive matches in professional football.
Bristol City Head Coach Lee Johnson will receive a celebratory bottle of champagne, courtesy of Tanners Wines, and an LG Performance of the Week trophy in a presentation to commemorate the result.
A hat-trick from Andreas Weimann inspired the Robins to an emphatic 3-2 win in an exciting Sky Bet Championship encounter against Sheffield United.
Lee Johnson’s men twice fought from behind thanks to the on-target Austrian, with Blades captain Billy Sharp heading the hosts into an early lead at the sun-soaked Bramall Lane.
Weimann levelled the tie with a looping header and Josh Brownhill’s second-half free kick struck the post before Scott Hogan restored the Blades’ lead.
However, City were level again when Kasey Palmer picked out the run of Weimann and the forward completed the scores with a calm finish seven minutes from the end of regular time.
Korey Smith returned to the starting XI following a long-term knee injury, making only his fourth appearance of the season as he joined Marlon Pack and Brownhill in midfield. Smith would be one four changes from the team which drew against Ipswich Town.
