LG PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK: JOHNSON CONTINUES UNBEATEN RUN WITH WIN AGAINST IPSWICH
The League Managers Association’s five-man panel, comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, has determined that the LG Performance of the Week Award should go to Bristol City for their 3-1 victory against Ipswich Town on Saturday 30th September 2017.
The experienced and highly distinguished panel has managed a combined total of over 6,000 competitive matches in professional football.
Bristol City manager Lee Johnson will receive a celebratory bottle of champagne, courtesy of Tanners Wines, and an LG Performance of the Week trophy in a presentation to commemorate the result.
City completed an impressive month of September with a first victory at Ipswich Town’s Portman Road since 1978, winning 3-1.
Josh Brownhill fired the visitors into the lead after just three minutes before Famara Diédhiou’s fifth goal in six matches doubled the advantage on the half hour.
Martyn Waghorn gave the home team hope with a goal before half-time, but Bobby Reid wrapped up the win eight minutes from the end, even if the strike was initially ruled offside before being overturned.
It means Lee Johnson's side has taken 14 points from a possible 18 in a busy September period, creeping up into the play-offs in the process. The unbeaten run now stands at 11 matches in all competitions.
