LG PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK: INJURY-TIME WINNER SECURES SECOND AWARD OF THE SEASON

The League Managers Association five-man Performance of the Week panel, comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, were in agreement that this week the LG Performance of the Week Award should go to Newcastle United following their 2-1 victory against Tottenham Hotspur in the Barclays Premier League on Sunday 13th December 2015.

The experienced and highly distinguished panel has managed a combined total of over 6,000 competitive matches in professional football.

Newcastle manager, Steve McClaren, will receive a specially commissioned trophy made by world renowned silversmiths and LMA Partner, Thomas Lyte of London, in a presentation to commemorate the award. This award is McClaren’s second of the season, with the first having been made in recognition of Newcastle’s 6-2 victory against Norwich City on Sunday 18th October 2015.

Substitute Ayoze Perez scored three minutes into stoppage time as Newcastle came from behind to beat Tottenham at White Hart Lane and move out of the relegation zone.

Newcastle's third win in five games lifted them three places to 15th.

McClaren told BBC Sport: “It's answered the critics we have had over the last four weeks and it was a great performance in the second half and a great result.

"That is what we are, a bedrock of discipline and hard work. We have talented players, and they know how to win, we just have to do it consistently.

"We haven't turned the corner yet - we need more performances like that. We have been inconsistent."
