LG PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK: DYCHE OVERCOMES CHAMPIONSHIP RIVALS TO ADVANCE IN THE FA CUP
The League Managers Association five-man Performance of the Week panel, comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, were in agreement that this week the LG Performance of the Week Award should go to Burnley following their excellent 2-1 away victory against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup on Saturday 9th January 2016.
The experienced and highly distinguished panel has managed a combined total of over 6,000 competitive matches in professional football.
Burnley manager, Sean Dyche, will receive a specially commissioned trophy made by world renowned silversmiths and LMA Partner, Thomas Lyte of London, in a presentation to commemorate the award.
The Clarets came from a goal behind against the current Championship leaders in their third round tie at the Riverside, with goals from Rouwen Hennings and Stephen Ward securing safe passage for Dyche’s men.
Burnley will now face another in-form side with Barclays Premier League leaders Arsenal up next in the fourth round, to be played on Saturday 30th January.
Dyche told BBC Sport: "I had a quiet word with them at half-time to say the least. Middlesbrough are a good side but we didn't play our game and apart from a flash of superb play for our goal, we let them play.
"Sometimes there is respect, but that is for before the game and that can go on to the pitch and there was too much respect and you can imagine that because they are going great.
"Footballers aren't daft and they know this is a challenge to play here, but in the second half that was us, playing our game."
