LG PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK: BIRMINGHAM EDGE CLOSER TO THE PLAY-OFFS AFTER DERBY WIN

The League Managers Association five-man Performance of the Week panel, comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, were in agreement that this week the LG Performance of the Week Award should go to Birmingham following their excellent 3-0 away victory against Derby County in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday 16th January 2016.

The experienced and highly distinguished panel has managed a combined total of over 6,000 competitive matches in professional football.

Birmingham manager, Gary Rowett, will receive a specially commissioned trophy made by world renowned silversmiths and LMA Partner, Thomas Lyte of London, in a presentation to commemorate the award.

With the match poised at 0-0 with just over half an hour to play, few would have predicted the convincing 3-0 score line; however goals from Paul Robinson, Stephen Gleeson and Maikel Kieftenbeld shocked title contenders, Derby and secured 3 vital points in their search for promotion to the Barclays Premier League.

Rowett told BBC Sport: "We were okay first half but we didn't commit to our attacking play enough. I just said to the players at half-time, 'Come on, if we are going to do it, we are going to do it properly, so can we get on the front foot and be a bit braver.'

"In that second half, with a bit more drive about us and playing five more yards up the pitch, it made a huge difference."
