His new challenge at The Eithad began prior to the start of the 2013/14 season.  He achieved instant success in his first season in charge by leading City to a Capital One Cup final victory over Sunderland. The 3-1 victory at Wembley gave Pellegrini his first trophy in England.

Later that season, Pellegrini guided Manchester City to their second Barclays Premier League title where they scored 102 league goals during the campaign to ensure he achieved a double in his first season in charge.
