Gil Prescott took charge of First Team affairs at Moss Rose in December 2000 after Peter Davenport's contract had been terminated by the Macclesfield board.
Prescott had been appointed as Director of Football at the club, a move that Davenport opposed and subsequently an arrangement he did not feel he could work with.
Prescott had previously worked as Sammy McIlroy's assistant at Macclesfield when the club achieved entry to the Football League and immediately achieved promotion to Division Two the following season.
He was placed in temporary charge of the team before being named as Davenport's permanent successor.
He will be hoping to return The Silkmen back to the Second Division where they enjoyed just one season before relegation and McIlroy's departure to take charge of Northern Ireland's national team.
