Colin Greenall was placed in temporary charge of team affairs after the shock departure of Bruce Rioch from the JJB Stadium.
Press reports initially suggested that Rioch had resigned from his post at Wigan but this was categorically refuted by him and he was advised by the LMA not to make any further comment on the situation.
Chasing automatic promotion to Division One at the time of Rioch's exit, Wigan are now searching for a permanent replacement. Greenall has been appointed caretaker manager until the end of the season and he has only one thing in mind – securing a place in Division One for The Latics'.
"That is my job, to get promotion, whichever way that happens doesn't matter," Greenall said.
"The players know me, just like I know the players, I won't change overnight into something I'm not. I'll just set about doing the job the way I think is best."
